Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are an urgent call, to developed and developing countries alike, for action to end poverty, improve health and education, encourage economic growth and tackle climate change. They touch every aspect of our lives—including the building of cities and the development of AI. 

1. Introduce your students to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (see video below).
2. Explore how this field trip experience intersects with various SDG goals, especially the three below. Ask students what they think each SDG means, and then play each video.
3. Consider each SDG and what challenges there might be to meeting it.
4. Break students up into small groups. Ask them to choose one of the SDGs, identify an obstacle to meeting that goal, and then design a solution to address that goal. Encourage students to consider how that solution can be implemented in their own community.
